Notebooks 3.7 for Mac
Notebooks 3.7 for Mac provides access to macOS version control, introduces new options to control the text brightness in dark appearance, adds a new document theme Callouts and brings several enhancements and corrections.
The update is available from this website and from the Mac App Store. Users of the non-Mac App Store version can use Notebooks‘ automatic update option as well.
As always, if you have any questions or feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Additions
- Document Versions: Browse, revert to, or delete versions with new actions available from the File menu. (Whenever you press
cmd-S
while editing, Notebooks saves a version of your document—a feature available for several releases.) - Control text brightness in dark appearance. The default setting is “bright,” but a new option in the menu View > Appearance lets you switch to dimmed text colors for documents and lists. (Solarized appearance remains unchanged.)
- New document theme Callouts, with specific classes for Box, Hint, Info, Note, Attention, and Warning. In formatted documents, these classes are accessible through the paragraph menu, and in Markdown, you can use the
>%...%
syntax with auto-suggestions. Callouts inherits from Default Theme, and the Handbook theme inherits from Callouts.
This is a Hint callout.
To apply this callout style to a paragraph, select the corresponding option from the paragraph menu in a formatted document, or use the > %hint%
notation in Markdown.
Enhancements for Markdown
- For improved compatibility with MathJax, Notebooks replaces the commonly used inline math notation
$...$
with the official MathJax-compatible notation\(...\)
. To ensure that this does not affect documents unintentionally, Notebooks applies the replacement only when the selected document theme includes MathJax, or when the word “MathJax” appears in the document, including comments. - Fixed layout issue in checklists with empty items.
- Improved support for the
> %class%
notation in MultiMarkdown. - Autocompletion now includes
{{TOC}}
and{{pagebreak}}
for{{}}
syntax.
Misc
- New from Pasteboard reliably detects URLs in plain text and pastes them as URLs rather than text.
- Settings > General options have been rearranged.
- Added a new option to mark the currently edited line with an angle bracket 〉.
- Resolved issues with artifacts in PDF and print output when using bold styles of Muli or STIXTwoText fonts.
- Various interface corrections and refinements.
